Help picking a small, furry pet?

I want to get a small, furry pet that will enjoy being held. The two requirements I can think of at the moment are that it does not stink unbearably and doesn’t typically bite. I have a 7yr old so who will interact with it but I will be the primary care provider. Rabbit, ferret, Guinea pig, chinchilla or??? Any suggestions from those that have a pet are greatly appreciated.
